DRC works with numerous state Departments of Education to score standardized assessments that are administered to K-12 students in compliance with Common Core requirements.
DRC hires Test Scorers to score the constructed handwritten or online responses that cannot be scored electronically and require a person to assess, like when a student has to show their work on a math problem or write an essay.

Recruiting for Day Shift scorers typically begins in February for scoring projects that take place March through June. Night Shift recruiting typically begins in March for scoring projects that take place April through June.

Day shift projects, which make up the majority of our scoring work, can begin as early as January, however, most projects begin in April.
When the need arises, DRC will recruit new Test Scorers for night projects. Night projects typically begin in April and availability is limited.

No, previous scoring experience is not required for consideration for this position. In fact, some of our best scorers had no prior experience in scoring before joining our team. We provide comprehensive training to help you develop the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the role.

Producing quality work in a timely manner is of the utmost importance when scoring DRC projects. Test Scorers will be given a target production rate to reach for each project. During training your supervisor will outline the productivity standards for the project.

$18.00 per hour with the chance to earn more if you are scoring Spanish responses. In addition, some Test Scorers may receive an hourly increase when they return to DRC, based on qualifying hours worked.

We offer Day and Night schedules. Day shift hours are 8:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday; Night shift hours are 5:30pm - 9:30pm.

No, Test Scorers can choose to be available for Day or Night shift, but the shift schedules are not flexible. We are goal driven and attendance is crucial to ensure scoring project completion. Test Scorers must commit to working either Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm or Monday - Friday, 5:30pm to 9:30pm for the duration of the project they accept.
Day shift Scorers have two paid scheduled 15-minute breaks and an unpaid 30-minute scheduled lunch break. Night shift Scorers have one paid scheduled 15-minute break. You will be informed when the scheduled break times are at the beginning of each project you work.

No, Test Scorers have no contact with students. Test Scorers receive the students’ work electronically and anonymously.

No, all training and scoring must be conducted from the United States-based home address that is on file for you in our HR system, Dayforce. Attempts to work from locations other than this address, including from non-US based IP addresses, will be blocked.

Test Scorer Hiring

The Test Scorer job isn’t for everyone—it requires mental agility, intellectual talents and the ability to maintain strong focus. To ensure we hire Test Scorers that are up for the challenge, our recruiting process includes the following steps:
- You complete an application.
- Your application is reviewed to determine your eligibility to move forward.
- If you are eligible to move forward, you will receive an email with a link to the Test Scorer assessments that all candidates must complete. There are three assessments: Math, Writing and Spanish (optional) and a video that we require candidates watch prior to an interview.
- If you complete the assessments acceptably, you will receive an invitation to interview via email.
- You schedule an interview at an available time that works for your schedule.
- You join a DRC Recruiter for a video interview.
- If you do well in the interview, you will be added to the list of Eligible Candidates and will receive DRC’s Temporary Employee Work Requirements to complete.
- Once you complete that, you will receive a Scoring Project offer when one that matches your skills and availability is open. Remember that the majority of our Day Shift Scoring Projects are from March – June and Night Shift from April – June, so there may be some wait time before you receive an offer.

The Writing Assessment provides information about a candidate’s grammar, punctuation and composition skills. Candidates should submit their best work for the Writing Assessment—they are evaluated carefully, and a poor result will eliminate candidates from further consideration for the job.
The Math Assessment is provided to identify candidates with talents in Math whose skills may be used for math-related scoring projects. Results of the Math Assessment don’t eliminate any candidates from continuing in the hiring process.
The Spanish Assessment is provided for candidates fluent in Spanish who would like to qualify to score tests in Spanish. There is a $2 per hour pay differential/increase for Scorers when they are scoring tests in Spanish. The Spanish Assessment is optional, and the results don’t eliminate any candidates from continuing in the hiring process.

No, DRC requires that candidates for the Test Scorer position hold at least a bachelor’s degree at the time of application. We encourage you to apply after you have received your bachelor’s degree.

Beginning shortly after a Test Scorer has accepted an offer of employment, the onboarding process consists of:
- completing new hire paperwork in our HRIS system
- completing the federal Form I-9 for employment eligibility
- uploading acceptable I-9 documentation
- scheduling and attending an I-9 video meeting with an HR representative
Successful completion of all onboarding tasks is required to begin work with DRC.

Working as a Test Scorer

Scoring projects are assigned by Human Resources and Test Scorers are notified via email. Test Scorers will receive a detailed project offer that they have the option to accept or decline.

Yes, training is paid and begins on the first day of a project. Test Scorers receive training on each project that they work. Training typically lasts 3-5 days and attendance is mandatory during this period. If scorers miss time for any reason, they are not able to continue working and will be removed from the project.
Test Scorers must pass an exam at the end of the training to qualify to score each project that they work.

Scorers will be monitored using reports and daily metrics to ensure accuracy and productivity standards are met. These standards help ensure that every test response is scored accurately and fairly, while meeting project deadlines. Scorers have access to see their performance metrics and are expected to meet or exceed the accuracy and productivity goals for the project.
Scorers will receive ongoing feedback to maintain or improve their performance. Feedback is communicated during 1 to 1 meetings with Team Leaders and/or Scoring Directors.

Test Scorers will be provided coaching to help increase their productivity. Test Scorers who continue to be unable to meet productivity or accuracy expectations are removed from the project. Depending on the circumstances, Test Scorers may be assigned to a different project and given another chance to train and master the scoring material and process.

DRC employees are paid bi-weekly and can opt into direct deposit or choose to receive a paper check. DRC highly recommends scorers sign up for direct deposit to avoid postal delays in receiving pay.

DRC utilizes the following software for test scoring: Learning Management System (LMS), Scoreboard, Zulip, and Ceridian Dayforce. DRC provides training on all of these applications for Test Scorers.
